Fortnite 2FA: How to activate two-factor authentication in Fortnite
(Source: Epic Games)
Fortnite is one of the largest and most popular online games in the world. Every day millions of players fight to be the last one alive on the island and, thanks to constantly new, crazy skins, to look the coolest.
Your Fortnite account probably contains not only sensitive data such as your email address or payment information, but also a lot of already paid skins, in-game items and possibly V-Bucks. Of course, your account needs to be protected and that's exactly why two-factor authentication, or 2FA for short, is available in Fortnite.
Activated 2FA is even required when participating in tournaments, so today we'll show you how to activate two-factor authentication in Fortnite.
Enable Fortnite 2FA
Luckily, activating two-factor authentication in Fortnite is very simple. Just follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Epic Games account
- Go to your profile picture and select “Account” from the drop-down menu
- Here go to “Password & Security” and scroll to “Two-Factor Authentication”
- Choose which type of 2FA you want to use, app, email or SMS
In our opinion, 2FA via an authentication app is the most user-friendly. You probably already use a corresponding app for your Microsoft, Google or Instagram account, so you can simply add your Epic Games account here. Common authentication apps include:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
No matter which type of 2FA you choose, from now on, when you log into your account, in addition to the password, you will also be asked for a code, which you will either receive by email or SMS or you can look up in your authentication app.
The advantages of Fortnite 2FA
Two-factor authentication actually brings you several advantages and is even mandatory for certain features:
- Security: Obviously your account is better protected this way and is more difficult to hack.
- Gift feature: If you want to send gifts in Fortnite, 2FA must be activated.
- Free games in the Epic Store: There are free games to be won every week in the Epic Games Store, some of which require 2FA.
- Participation in Fortnite tournaments: As already mentioned, 2FA must be activated if you want to take part in official Fortnite tournaments.
As you can see, two-factor authentication in Fortnite is not only important to protect yourself from scammers and hackers, but also to be able to use certain features of the game and Epic Games in general. So make sure you have 2FA enabled in Fortnite!
